What: Dual Language Program Expansion and Extension (AAFR) Community Meeting

Austin ISD would like to invite you to learn more about the possible expansion of the dual language program at a community meeting on  Thursday, October 18, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the auditorium of Ridgetop Elementary, at 5005 Caswell Avenue.  This meeting will be conducted in English.  Spanish interpretation services will be provided. 

The Dual Language Program promotes the development of bilingual, bicultural, and biliterate students, who learn a combination of English and Spanish, or another global language. The possible expansion of this program is one of the district’s potential 2013-14 Annual Academic and Facilities Recommendations.

On Thursday, October 18, there will be another meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the auditorium of Ridgetop Elementary, located at 5005 Caswell Avenue.  This meeting will be conducted in English.  Spanish interpretation services will be provided.

BAC Meeting

What: Boundary Advisory Committe (BAC) Meetings

The purpose of the Boundary Advisory Committee (BAC) is to assist in developing recommendations for the creation of, and adjustment to, school attendance zone boundaries.  

To accomplish its purpose, the BAC shall advise the Superintendent, who will develop a recommendation to the Board on the following boundary-related activities which may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Developing the criteria for evaluating boundary proposals
  2. Creating attendance zones for new school facilities.
  3. Reviewing and advising the administration on the development of facility-related contingency plans due to school performance issues.
  4. Repurposing or consolidation of existing school facilities.
  5. Providing advisory input, as appropriate, during the preparation and the annual review of the Facility Master Plan with the Board of Trustees and the Superintendent.
  6. Planning and conducting stakeholder engagement activities, and gathering and assessing stakeholder input.
  7. Providing progress reports and formal recommendations to the Superintendent
  8. Completing other projects as assigned by the Superintendent.

Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders Sponsors School-wide College Visits; More than 700 Students Visit Central Texas College Campuses

Austin, TX–Tomorrow, students at the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders will embark on school-sponsored visits to college campuses across Central Texas--the first large-scale, college field trip in the school's history.

AISD Students Outscore State Average on ACT and SAT; Largest Gain in National Exams is 43 Points on SAT Writing Exam

Austin, TX—Students in the Austin Independent School District continue to score higher on the SAT and ACT exams than their counterparts across the state, according to data released today by the College Board.

The 2012 average SAT score for AISD students was 1496—greater than the average state score of 1434 and comparable to the national average score of 1498. Students who took the ACT exam performed equally well with a composite score of 21.4, exceeding the state and national averages of 20.8 and 21.1, respectively.

School for Young Men (AAFR) Community Meeting

What:  School for Young Men (AAFR) Community Meeting.  Austin ISD is considering a proposal to open a district-wide School for Young Men during the 2013-14 school year.  As a parent or caregiver of a young male student in first through fifth grades, we would like to invite you to a parent meeting, Saturday, October 27, from 10 a.m. to noon in cafeteria at Crockett High School, located at 5601 Manchaca Rd.

Join us for a brief presentation and community-focused discussion to address single-sex schools and such issues as academic performance, learning styles and student interests.  Child care, interpretation services and light refreshments will be provided.

What: Public Hearing for AAFRs

The Austin Independent School District Administration will hold a Public Hearing on Tuesday, October 30, beginning at 6:30 pm in the Carruth Administration Center Board Auditorium, located at 1111 West Sixth Street, Room B100, Austin, Texas.

The purpose of the Public Hearing is to provide an opportunity for the public to provide comment on the 2013-14 Annual Academic and Facilities Recommendations (AAFRs).  One or more board members may attend this meeting.

Speakers may sign up beginning at 5:30 pm on October 30 at the Carruth Administration Center Board Auditorium.
