AISD to Provide Free Meals for all Students through the 2020-21 School Year
The Texas Department of Agriculture recently announced an extension of current school meal programs through the 2020-21 school year. Through the federally-funded program, all Austin ISD students will receive free school meals through June 3, the last day of school.

Blackshear Fine Arts Academy Receives Library Grant
Blackshear Fine Arts Academy received a $3,000 grant from bestselling author James Patterson to support its school library.In addition, Scholastic Reading Club will match each dollar of Patterson’s donation with points teachers can use to acquire books and other materials for their classrooms. AISD Day Camps

There will be no school that day as the district marked it as one of two days for staff and students to get a break. Sunset Valley Elementary Teacher Receives $10,000 Grant from Rack Room Shoes
Smiles could almost be seen through masks at Sunset Valley Elementary School on Monday. That’s because Jessica Onyegam was recognized as a Rack Room Shoes Teacher of the Year. She was presented with a $10,000 technology lab grant for the school and a $500 Rack Room Shoes gift card for her. Principal Marizza Marquez says she is not surprised Onyegam was chosen for this award.
Three Names Submitted to AISD Board for Consideration in Renaming of Robert E. Lee Elementary School
Robert E. Lee Elementary School’s Campus Advisory Council has recommended three names to Austin ISD trustees for consideration for the renaming of the school.
