Cultural Uni-tea: AISD Hosts 26 Uruguayan Teachers
Last week was one week of firsts for the 26 teachers visiting Austin ISD from Uruguay.Two who were visiting Pillow Elementary School said that, for the first time, they had flown in a plane, eaten tacos and drunk Dr Pepper.Each teacher in the two-week program stays with a host—an AISD teacher who volunteers to show them what Austin living is like, both at home and at work.

Parent Support Specialist One of 20 in Nation Nominated for Positive Impact Award
Mycah Lee Arellano, a Walnut Creek Elementary School parent support specialist and host of The Eagle Talk Show, has been nominated for a Hispanicize “Positive Impact Award.” Arellano’s talk show—the first academic talk show in the state—is sponsored by AISD and is dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of parental involvement.
Coats for Kids 2018
Austin ISD has partnered with The Junior League of Austin to provide free shuttle transportation for Coats for Kids 2018. This year's event is 8 a.m.–3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Palmer Events Center, 900 Barton Springs Road. Buses begin picking up families at 7 a.m. and return every hour, beginning at 9 a.m. The last bus will leave the Palmer Events Center at 3:30 p.m.
