Planning Regions

Final Regional Planning Map

Austin ISD has chosen one of the maps—Map B from below—to use as the district moves forward with the School Changes Process. View or download the final map as a PDF.

Important note: This map will be used for data analysis only. It does not represent any changes to feeder patterns, vertical teams or attendance area boundaries.

To be clear, in the future, the School Changes process may yield recommendations that could result in changes to attendance boundaries, feeder patterns or vertical teams but we are not at that point in the process yet.

This map divides the district into five regions that stretch east to west and will allow AISD to look for opportunities to enhance our academic programming.

The regions will be used for planning during the School Changes Process as the district determines whether schools may receive new programming or may need to be repurposed or consolidated.

Planning Regions

Planning Regions are an integral part of the reinvention planning process, and serve as the starting point for identifying creative opportunities that could be incorporated into scenarios.

At their May 6 board work session, trustees discussed three draft regional maps that AISD is considering as we move forward in the school changes process.

They do not currently represent attendance boundaries, feeder patterns or vertical teams. The maps are for planning purposes only.

The planning regions shown on the maps are a tool used in the process to identify opportunities and challenges that might otherwise be missed if traditional planning regions were used. This method of planning also allows AISD staff to evaluate how all our schools work with one another to fully support the academic vision of the district while balancing our limited resources.

All scenarios developed using planning regions will also be analyzed against vertical team and feeder patterns to ensure alignment with our Guiding Principles.

Maps are subject to change and no map has been selected as final.
