Unity Day, started by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center in October 2011, is the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month. This is a day when we can come together to send a visible message of building commUNITY through kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. The call to action is simple: wear and share the color orange.

We are at a critical moment in our history. Our Austin ISD community, which loves and supports public education, must meet the moment or we risk the future of our school district. There is never a good time to share news of significant changes. However, our decision to share this information on a Friday evening allowed staff to receive it and have time to process it before returning to our students on Monday.

"The Truth About Reading" is an 80-minute documentary that explores illiteracy in America, highlighting stories of people who learned to read as adults, and sharing proposed solutions for working towards a future where every child learns to read proficiently.
