Board Bulletin: Trustees discuss draft school consolidation and boundary change plan, third-grade math (En Español)

The October Information Session gave trustees the first opportunity to discuss the draft school consolidation and boundary change plan. Then, Austin ISD leaders gave updates on Scorecard Goal 2: Third-Grade Numeracy, including notable gains year over year.

Let’s get into the details.

Families asked to complete annual student forms through Parent Portal (En Español)

Thank you to the more than 50,000 Austin ISD families who have completed their Annual Forms!

If you have not already done so, families are encouraged to take a moment to complete their annual student forms, including the Income Verification Form, through Enroll Austin, located in the Parent Portal.

Don’t get hooked: All you need to know about the latest phishing attacks (En Español)

We’re seeing an increase in sophisticated phishing attacks within the district, including campaigns targeting students.

What is phishing? Phishing is a form of cybercrime where attackers send fraudulent communications—like emails, texts, or fake websites—to trick people into revealing sensitive information, such as passwords, bank account details, or personal data.

Gaggle Student Safety Device Monitoring

Gaggle is a digital safety platform Austin ISD uses to help keep students safe while using school-provided digital platforms, including their Google accounts (email, Google Drive, Google Docs, and web activity). Gaggle monitors for potential safety risks such as self-harm, bullying, harassment, or other concerning behaviors. When risks are detected, alerts are sent to school staff and/or Austin ISD Police so they can respond appropriately.

This month’s Board Information Session dug into scorecard goals on middle school math and college, career and military readiness. We also got an update on the TEA Agreed Order and the board’s progress toward meeting the order’s requirements for Lone Star Governance.

Let’s dive in.

Scorecard Goal 4 is focused on increasing the percentage of economically disadvantaged eighth-grade students who successfully complete Algebra 1. To set students up for success, we are focusing on what’s happening with students as early as sixth grade.
