Urgent action needed for Dobie Middle School as Austin ISD navigates separate consolidation talks (En español)

Austin ISD must consider some difficult options for Dobie Middle School after an appeals court dismissed the lawsuit blocking TEA from releasing its 2023 “A-F” school accountability ratings.

Why it matters: Texas has the ability to take serious actions against school districts that allow a school to fail for five years in a row, including but not limited to assigning a Board of Managers to oversee the entire district, replacing the current locally elected board.

Celebrating 2024-25 Volunteers of the Year

April is Volunteer Appreciation Month, and we’re #AISDProud to recognize the Austin ISD 2024-25 Volunteers of the Year. We know public schools could not work without the people from the community who step up to do what’s needed, and this is our chance to salute the best of an indispensable bunch.

Every year, each campus picks one or two Volunteers and Mentors who have given exceptional support to support their schools. Visit the dashboard below to find this year's volunteers and mentor's at each school.

Public Facility Corporation

In Texas, a Public Facility Corporation (PFC) is a nonprofit entity that facilitates the development of mixed-income housing. PFCs have the authority to construct, acquire, and rehabilitate multifamily residential properties. They are governed by Chapter 303 of the Texas Local Government Code, which grants them broad powers to finance and provide public facilities. Recent legislative changes have introduced more rigorous requirements for multifamily housing developments, including new reporting requirements and tenant protections. The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs oversees compliance monitoring for PFC developments.

In April 2023, the Austin Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the formation of the Austin ISD Public Facility Corporation.

Austin ISD is thrilled to announce our official acceptance into the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) through the Texas Education Agency. TIA was created by the Texas Legislature to provide a pathway for top-performing teachers to earn higher salaries and help districts attract and retain highly effective teachers.
