Can you believe there are only 24 days left in this school year? This year flew by!
Last week, our board spent Wednesday and Thursday evenings developing our new Scorecard. We had rich and deep discussions about how to move forward in a way that honors our values. We’ll provide an update on this for the public at this Thursday’s Board Voting Meeting.
Enrollment for the 2024-25 school year is well underway. As you know, we launched a new enrollment system to help streamline processes in Austin ISD. I acknowledge that the launch has not gone as smoothly as it could have been and I apologize. We are actively addressing these concerns and we need to get input from our families. Please share your feedback on this brief form if you have time.

Where I’ll be and who I’ll meet
Monday, April 22
I hope you love student art as much as I do because you’re about to see some fantastic student art on CapMetro buses! This morning, I’m heading to the unveiling of Austin ISD student art, Art on the Bus with CapMetro! This is going to be a great event celebrating Austin ISD artists.
Then, I’ll head back to the office for our Senior Leadership Meetings. We’re continuing to develop a budget and find savings while keeping students and campuses at the forefront of our decision-making. Later, I’ll receive an update on the Special Education initiative. We’re making progress in all areas, and I’m proud of the work our team is doing across departments to support our students. Later in the day, I’ll meet with President Singh and Ashley Paz, our Lone Star Governance Coach. Last week, we had work sessions where we received data from the Council of Great City Schools and began drafting goals and constraints for our new Scorecard. I’ll end the day planning for our summertime Leadership Institute — a meeting for campus leaders. I’ll end the day by attending the AVID cording ceremony, where we’ll celebrate students.
Tuesday, April 23
Today, I’ll start my day in a very special way by honoring this month’s Golden Rave Winner. This month’s Golden Rave Winner is extraordinary administrative professional who helps our district run. You can check out our social media later in the day to see who it is. Then, I’ll take some time to speak with the Former Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, Joe Straus. Later I’ll get an update on our Ombuds Office.
Lunch time is going to be the best time! I have the honor of attending the Food of the Future event. This project is a collaborative effort between Austin ISD Food Service, culinary students from Austin High School, Bowie High School, Clifton Career Development Center, Travis Early College High School and sustainable food experts. Students worked with food producers and chefs this semester to create innovative dishes using unique, sustainable ingredients. Today, students will showcase their creations at this Earth Week tasting event, and I will get to try out their tasty creations.
In the afternoon, I’ll meet with Dr. Marcelo Cavazos, Superintendent-in-Residence at the Holdsworth Center, receive an update on Enroll Austin, attend our Scorecard Goal Progress Measure Workgroup Meetings and have a 1:1 with Trustee Gonzalez.
Wednesday, April 24
This morning, I’ll start with a meeting about an upcoming speech I am giving for Austin in Common. Then, I’ll meet with Trustee Boswell, followed by lunch with a community member. In the afternoon, I’ll have a 1:1 with Trustee Kauffman, followed by a 1:1 with Chief Brandi Hosack. After that, I’ll meet with the Austin Partners in Education Executive Committee. I’ll end the day by attending Travis County’s State of the County Address where Judge Brown will provide his vision for the next year.
Thursday, April 25
My day begins with a 1:1 with Trustee Lugo, followed by designated planning and prep time. I’ll use the time to get updates on where we are with strategic initiatives and upcoming events and projects. The afternoon includes time for board meeting preparations. Tonight's agenda starts with a Public Facilities Corporation meeting, followed by our regular board meeting, where I’ll report on recent student accolades and a budget update. We will also discuss our progress with the Scorecard Goals and Constraints. The Board will also have a Voter-approval Tax Rate Election — also known as VATRE — Work Session.
Friday, April 26
Today is set aside for deep work and planning for instructional leadership, systems and continuous improvement. I’ll spend some time preparing for an upcoming panel discussing workforce housing in Austin ISD. I’ll spend the afternoon planning and preparing for end-of-year activities.

¿Pueden creer que sólo quedan 24 días de este ciclo escolar? ¡Este año pasó volando!
La semana pasada, nuestra mesa directiva pasó las tardes del miércoles y jueves pasado desarrollando nuestra nueva Tarjeta de resultados. Tuvimos conversaciones interesantes y profundas sobre cómo avanzar de una manera que refleje nuestros valores. Proporcionaremos una actualización sobre esto para el público en la junta de votación de la mesa directiva de este jueves.
La matriculación para el ciclo escolar 2024-25 está en marcha. Como ustedes saben, lanzamos un nuevo sistema de matriculación para ayudar a agilizar los procesos en el Austin ISD. Reconozco que el lanzamiento no ha ido tan bien como podría haberlo hecho y pido disculpas. Estamos abordando activamente estas inquietudes y necesitamos la opinión de nuestras familias. Dónde estaré y con quién me reuniré
Lunes, 22 de abril
Espero que les guste el arte estudiantil tanto como a mí, ¡porque están a punto de ver un fantástico arte estudiantil en los autobuses de CapMetro! Esta mañana, me dirijo a la inauguración del arte estudiantil del Austin ISD, ¡Arte en el Autobús con CapMetro! Este va a ser un gran evento celebrando a los artistas del Austin ISD.
Después volveré a la oficina para asistir a nuestras reuniones con los líderes de alto rango. Seguimos elaborando un presupuesto y buscando ahorros, al tiempo que mantenemos a los estudiantes y las escuelas en el primer plano de nuestra toma de decisiones. Más tarde, recibiré información actualizada sobre la iniciativa de Educación Especial. Estamos progresando en todos los ámbitos, y estoy orgulloso del trabajo que nuestro equipo está realizando en todos los departamentos para apoyar a nuestros estudiantes. Más tarde, me reuniré con la presidenta Singh y con Ashley Paz, nuestra instructora de gobernanza de Lone Star. La semana pasada tuvimos sesiones de trabajo en las que recibimos datos del Consejo de Escuelas de Grandes Ciudades y empezamos a redactar objetivos y limitaciones para nuestra nueva Tarjeta de resultados. Terminaré el día asistiendo a la ceremonia de entrega de cordones de AVID, donde celebraremos a los estudiantes.
Martes, 23 de abril
Hoy empezaré el día de una forma muy especial, homenajeando al ganador del Golden Rave de este mes. El ganador del Golden Rave de este mes es un extraordinario profesional administrativo que ayuda a que nuestro distrito opere. Pueden consultar nuestras redes sociales más adelante para ver de quién se trata. Luego, me tomaré un tiempo para hablar con el expresidente de la Cámara de Representantes de Texas, Joe Straus. Más tarde me pondré al día sobre nuestra Oficina del Ómbudsman.
¡La hora del almuerzo va a ser el mejor momento! Tengo el honor de asistir al evento Food of the Future (Comida del Futuro). Hoy, los estudiantes mostrarán sus creaciones en esta degustación de la Semana de la Tierra, y yo podré probar sus sabrosas creaciones.
Por la tarde, me reuniré con el Dr. Marcelo Cavazos, superintendente residente en el Centro Holdsworth, recibiré información actualizada sobre Enroll Austin, asistiré a nuestras reuniones del grupo de trabajo de medición del progreso de los objetivos de la Tarjeta de resultados y tendré una reunión individual con el representante González.
Miércoles, 24 de abril
Esta mañana empezaré con una reunión sobre un próximo discurso que daré para Austin in Common. Luego, me reuniré con la representante Boswell, seguido de un almuerzo con un miembro de la comunidad. Por la tarde, voy a tener una reunión individual con el representante Kauffman, seguido de una reunión individual con la jefa Brandi Hosack. Después, me reuniré con el Comité Ejecutivo de Austin Partners in Education. Terminaré el día asistiendo al discurso sobre el estado del condado de Travis, donde el juez Brown ofrecerá su visión para el próximo año.
Jueves, 25 de abril
Mi día comienza con una reunión individual con la representante Lugo, seguida de un tiempo de planificación y preparación. Aprovecharé el tiempo para ponerme al día sobre la situación de las iniciativas estratégicas y los próximos eventos y proyectos. Por la tarde habrá tiempo para preparar la junta de la mesa directiva. El orden del día de esta noche comienza con una junta de la Corporación de Instalaciones Públicas, seguida de nuestra junta ordinaria, en la que informaré sobre los recientes reconocimientos a los estudiantes y una actualización del presupuesto. También discutiremos nuestro progreso con las Metas y Restricciones de la Tarjeta de resultados. La mesa directiva también tendrá una sesión de trabajo sobre la Elección de la Tasa de Impuestos para Aprobación de los Votantes, también conocida como VATRE.
Viernes, 26 de abril
Hoy está reservado para el trabajo profundo y la planificación para el liderazgo, sistemas y mejora continua de la instrucción. Dedicaré algo de tiempo a preparar un próximo panel sobre la vivienda para la fuerza laboral en el Austin ISD. Pasaré la tarde planificando y preparando las actividades de fin de año.
