AISD Hosts Pride Week Celebration

To showcase our commitment to creating a safe, supportive and inclusive environment, Austin ISD will host its Pride Week Celebration April 19-24. You don’t have to be a teacher, parent or student to join this district wide celebration of our LGBTQIA+ students, staff and families. 
 
The celebration will include a series of weeklong virtual informational and community social-emotional learning sessions.  
 

Austin ISD Announces 2021 Teachers of the Year

Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde surprised four teachers in their classrooms on April 14 to announce their selection as Austin ISD's 2021 Teachers of the Year for elementary and secondary schools.

Being selected as a Teacher of the Year is one of the highest honors the district bestows on AISD teachers.

Austin ISD Fine Arts believes in strong visual arts education because it develops well-rounded students through art-making that builds creativity, critical thinking, visual literacy, and problem-solving while supporting confidence, self-expression, and social-emotional growth. Visual arts instruction connects learning to real-world skills such as observation, design, craftsmanship, and the use of artistic tools and materials, while also fostering cultural understanding and civic awareness.

AISD Police to Recognize Guerrero Thompson Student with 'Community Member Lifesaving Award'

Ceremony at 8 a.m., April 15

The Austin ISD Police Department will recognize a Guerrero Thompson Elementary School student on Thursday, April 15 with the organization's Community Member Lifesaving Award for his heroic efforts during the Longspur Crossing Apartments fire in January.

Fifth-grade student Damian Saabedra was the first to place a 911 call and alert other residents in the building of the need to evacuate. Damian will be the first elementary school student ever to receive the Austin ISD Police Community Member Lifesaving Award. 

Furry Friends get Vaccinated Thanks to Engaging Akins ECHS Student Program

Humans are not the only ones getting their vaccinations. Eighty-five furry four-legged friends received their routine vaccines thanks to the Akins Early College High School veterinary clinic on Tuesday, April 13.

Students took advantage of hands-on experiences offered through the district’s Career and Technical Education program during the community pet vaccination clinic.

On April 14, Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde will surprise four teachers in their classrooms to announce their selection to Austin ISD 2021 Teachers of the Year.
 
The Teacher of the Year designation is one of the highest honors the district bestows upon Austin ISD teachers. 

The Texas Teacher of the Year program, which is facilitated by the Texas Association of School Administrators and the Texas Education Agency, recognizes teachers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and excellence in teaching.

Update about Human Sexuality and Responsibility unit (En español)

Correction statement following newsletter error: Human Sexuality and Responsibility (HSR) will not be taught virtually or face-to-face this spring for students in grades K-8. Students who are currently enrolled in the High School 2021 Health Education course will participate in the HSR unit. Parents or legal guardians will continue to have the option to opt out their child if so desired
