Akins ECHS Students Participate in Pet Vaccination Clinic, Work Toward Veterinary Assistant State Certification

On Tuesday, Akins Early College High School veterinary medical application students will take advantage of rich hands-on experiences through a community pet vaccination clinic. 

The Akins veterinary clinic is an on-site teaching facility focused on student learning through hands-on experience. All grooming and clinic services will be supervised by the instructor and industry professional. The students working in the clinic are all high school seniors completing class work towards becoming state-certified veterinary assistants.

The student-run clinic will administer dog and cat vaccines for DHLP, Parvo, Rabies, Bordetella, PRCC, Feline Leukemia.

Veterinary medical application is one course offered through the Career and Technical Education program in Austin ISD. CTE courses provide students with the academic knowledge and technical skills they need to gain entry to high-skill, high-wage and high-demand industries.

When: Tuesday, April 13 from 5-7 p.m.

Where: Akins Early College High School, Portable 338/339, 10701 S 1st St. (Portables are located on the northeast side of campus, near the intersection of Akins High School Road and Old San Antonio Road)
