By Benjamin Beane

Govalle Elementary families were treated to curbside coffee and sweet bread in their cars Tuesday morning as they dropped their students off at school.

“The curbside coffee event was a great way to reconnect parents to our campus staff,” said Yasmin Espinoza, Parent Support Specialist at Govalle.

In addition to coffee and snacks, Govalle staff including Espinoza, Principal Paula Reyes and others handed out school swag and information regarding registration for the upcoming school year. Roadie the Govalle Roadrunner even made an appearance!

Going back to school this August will be getting back to normal, the Superintendent said Wednesday.

“We will definitely be offering a much more traditional face-to-face school year for the 2021-22 school year,” Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde told parents in a public forum. “And we will continue to require masking as long as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend it.”

Sustainability in Action at Govalle Elementary School

Earlier in April, AISD Urban Forester Matt Mears worked with students to plant seedlings in Govalle Elementary School's new open field. The seedlings came from a beloved tree that was removed from the site due to poor health and safety concerns. “Family tree” takes on a whole new meaning at Govalle as future students play and learn under the shade of this new generation of legacy trees.
