Austin ISD Superintendent Paul Cruz will welcome students and staff to the new year while visiting 10 campuses Aug. 20 and 21. 

Campus visits will highlight back-to-school events and programs throughout AISD, including the campuses with new academic partnerships, work from the 2017 bond and student supports in social and emotional learning.  

Four campuses and facilities within Austin ISD will start the year with new names Aug. 20. 

AISD administrators in November 2017 introduced the topic of renaming five district sites named after individuals who were associated with the Confederacy. The five sites are the John T. Allan Facility, Zachary Taylor Fulmore Middle School, Eastside Memorial Early College High School at the Johnston Campus and Sidney Lanier Early College High School and John H. Reagan Early College High School.

School lunch menus at AISD feature many global flavors to introduce students to new foods and provide learning opportunities about cultural foodways. Items added to the menu for this school year that will be featured at this event include vegetarian manicotti, braised lentil tostada, and a mango smoothie made with local yogurt and homemade granola. We will also be featuring carrots from Johnson's Backyard Garden and a salad bar.

Austin ISD, Board President Geronimo Rodriguez, Board members, and Superintendent Paul Cruz will be joined by local and statewide officials Friday to mark the start of a new year and welcome all to an exciting school year.
