Akins Future Lawyers of America Recognized at Capitol

This January, State Representative Donna Howard passed a resolution recognizing Akins High School's Future Lawyers of America as a leading program in legal education and the first high school legal aid program in the country.

Rep. Howard met with the student organization to explain the process of passing legislation, serving on committees and opportunities at the Capitol.

A+FCU Donates $2K to AISD Campuses for Overdue Lunch Balances

A+ Federal Credit Union has donated more than $2,000 to Austin ISD schools to pay off overdue lunch balances as part of its yearlong A+ Gives program. The program is in celebration of its 70 year anniversary and is designed to give back to the communities that have helped A+FCU grow over the past seven decades. 

Each A+FCU branch selected a partner school to benefit from the program. The following campuses, donation amounts and branches are listed below:

Austin ISD, UT Showcase Research to Benefit Pre-K-12 Education

Austin ISD and the University of Texas College of Education hosted its first Collaborative Research Forum. The event brought together university- and district-based researchers to share findings, discuss compelling issues, and identify new areas of inquiry in pre-K-12 education. The intent was to facilitate ideas and collaborations across fields of study in ways that might open new avenues of research that improve outcomes for students, and more than 100 attended.
