The Austin ISD Board of Trustees has appointed Natalie Cardona-Villanueva to serve as principal of Williams Elementary School. The board approved the decision at its March 25 regular board meeting.

Cardona-Villanueva most recently served as interim principal of Williams since December 2018. She previously worked as administrative supervisor in the elementary associate superintendent office and as an assistant principal at Langford Elementary School. She has been with AISD since 1998 and served as a teacher for 15 years.

The Austin ISD Board of Trustees approved the renaming of Sidney Lanier Early College High School to Juan Navarro Early College High School at their March 25 regular meeting. The motion was contingent upon the name clearing criteria identified in Austin ISD policy.

All AISD offices and schools will be closed during this period. The district will resume regular business hours Monday, March 25.

We’re #AISDproud to celebrate César Chávez-Dolores Huerta Day on Friday, March 29. On this day, we will honor the lives and legacies of the two Hispanic civil rights leaders who formed the United Farm Workers Union in the 1960s to protest the poor treatment of laborers.

Schools will have opportunities to engage students and staff in the celebration, including lessons focusing on both Chávez and Huerta and messages shared on morning announcements and social media.
