Bowie Girls Basketball Hosts Be-YOU-tiful Tournament

Bowie High School Coach Vickie Benson recently hosted the sixth annual Bowie Girls Be-YOU-tiful Basketball Classic. 

The tournament aims to empower young women, and each year it’s driven by a different theme or message that focuses on issues affecting students’ lives. 

Previous topics have included eating disorder awareness, domestic violence, substance abuse and honoring women in the military.

Budget Briefs: Task Force Continues Discussion on Recommendations, Presentation to Board Nov. 12

The Budget Stabilization Task Force continued its discussion of potential recommendations and reviewed a preliminary survey at the Nov. 7 meeting. The 10th meeting of the task force also included a continued presentation from the staffing and compensation subcommittee. The task force will present and overview of its process at the Nov. 12 Board of Trustees work session.

One year ago, voters approved AISD's largest bond: a $1 billion investment to embark on the first phase of a long-term plan to modernize schools and address overcrowding and critical deficiencies.

Since then, our AISD bond team and school communities have launched an aggressive schedule to begin designing and constructing the innovative learning spaces worthy of our students' talents as they prepare for an ever-changing global marketplace.

Budget Stabilization Task Force Meeting

The Budget Stabilization Task Force is a key component of the district’s strategy to address its growing budget deficit.

The ad hoc advisory body will explore a broad range of actions the district could take to balance the budget in the next two to three years.

AISD, ACTPA Partner with Office Depot to Modernize Learning, Prepare Students for Success

Students at Eastside Memorial Early College High School and International High School will see part of their campus transformation into a 21st-century learning space years before moving into a fully modernized campus.

In partnership with Austin ISD and the Austin Council of PTAs, Office Depot is bringing modernized and progressive learning environments to transform the way students learn on campus. Eastside Memorial and International have been selected to showcase the innovative learning environment, which will be highlighted a celebration with students.

Hour of Code 2018

In a collaborative effort to increase awareness of computer science in schools, AISD is joining the global movement to reach hundreds of millions of students and teachers to encourage them to just try “an hour of coding” during the week of Dec. 3–9 or before. Last year, more than 400 million students tried the Hour of Code.
