Akins Senior Sets School Record with 2,091 Career Points

Senior point guard Denae Lofton is atop the Akins High School record books for points scored in a basketball career.

With 2,091 points, Lofton surpassed all Akins High School basketball players—girls or boys—in the school’s history.

“It’s pretty surreal,” Lofton said after reaching the 2,000-point milestone. "I never knew that I would be the first one in school history. It shows that hard work pays off whenever you put the time in.”

Sky’s the Limit: Youth Art Month Kicks Off with Billboard Signing

Austin ISD is kicking off Youth Art Month with Travis Early College High School student artist John Ramirez signing a billboard he designed.

What: The Austin Fire Department will lift Superintendent Paul Cruz, the student and his art teacher, Rachael Wellborn, in a fire truck bucket to sign the billboard. The billboards are sponsored by Reagan National Advertising and A+ Federal Credit Union.

When: 10:15 a.m. Thursday, March 1

Campus principals will continue to reinforce those safety and security procedures with their teachers, staff and students.

Williams Elementary Wildcat Health and Wellness Night

Wildcat Health and Wellness Night is a free family engagement event focused on living a healthy lifestyle though physical fitness, nutrition, mental and emotional well-being, connections to resources within the city of Austin and health assessments performed by students from the Akins High School Health Science department.

The event will start at 6 p.m. and include physical fitness circuit activities for families to participate in together, representatives from Common Threads and El Buen Samaritano to present activities about Nutrition, representative with Austin Public Health to provide resources about immunizations, tips to avoid certain illnesses and general public resources to wellness programs.

There will also be hands-on activities for families geared towards our focus on Social and Emotional Learning.
