Burnet Middle School Students Do the Write Thing

Two eighth-grade students from AISD’s Burnet Middle School have been named national ambassadors for the Do the Write Thing Challenge. This year marks the first time that the two national ambassadors from the Austin-Travis County area have been from the same school. 

Rudolph (R.C.) Hardin and Vivian Pan were selected as ambassadors for the program, which is an initiative of the National Campaign to Stop Violence. NCSV is a nonprofit organization comprised of community, business and governmental leaders committed to reducing youth violence in communities throughout the U.S.

William B. Travis Early College High School Transition Camp

Travis Early College High School will host a transition camp for incoming freshman from 9 a.m.–noon Aug. 8–10.

Highlights of the camp include the Early College Program, extracurriculars tours of the campus with fellow Rebels and faculty members.

Students, Volunteers Shine at Latino Academic Achievement Awards

Austin ISD saluted high achievers and dedicated volunteers at the Latino Academic Achievement Awards on May 6 at the AISD Performing Arts Center.

In addition to showcasing the academic excellence of Latino students from throughout the district, the ceremony honored community leaders in a trio of categories.

Mona Gonzales took home the Community Service Award for her founding and leadership of the River City Youth Foundation.

District Hosts Online Student Registration Event at LBJ ECHS

Austin ISD invites students and their families to an online registration event May 9.

Join district staff 5–7 p.m. at LBJ Early College High School for a Student Registration Extravaganza.

Register students for the 2017–18 school year, get help navigating the Parent Cloud or learn how to set up a new account.

Staff and computers will be available to assist families with registration and Parent Cloud accounts.

AISD Tracksters Eye State Meet

Led by the sprint relay teams at LBJ ECHS, Austin ISD tracksters will go for gold at the state track meet May 11–13 in Austin. 

"When you make it this far, you're top eight in the state, so our goal is to go in there and run our best races of the season," LBJ boys track coach Curtis Clay said. "It's been an amazing season, and it's not over yet." 

The Jaguars' boys' and girls' 100- and 200-meter relay teams will vie for top honors, as will Rachel Horowitz in the 100 meters, Sarah Porter and Caroline Anyatonwu in the 200, and Hannah Porter in the 400.

This series of meetings is important to provide community input on priorities for bond projects. It is anticipated the Board of Trustees could call for the bond in June with a potential bond election in November.
