AISD Holds 2017 Graduation Ceremonies May 30–June 3

Austin ISD will hold 14 high school graduation ceremonies for graduates May 30–June 3.

All but one of the ceremonies will be held at the Frank Erwin Center, 1701 Red River St. The Rosedale School will hold its ceremony at its campus.

Ceremonies held at the Frank Erwin Center will be webcast live on the district's website.

MEDIA ADVISORY Austin Ed Fund to award more than $75,000 in Innovation Grants to Austin ISD Teachers

Austin Ed Fund, the public education foundation that supports excellence and innovation in AISD, will award more than $75,000 in Innovation Grants to local teachers this spring to support their most creative project ideas in literacy, science, technology, engineering and math.  

 

AISD Names Alan Lambert Director of Fine Arts

The Austin ISD Board of Trustees approved Alan Lambert as the new director of fine arts for the district, effective May 29.
 
Lambert will oversee the fine arts department, which includes art, music, band, choir, dance, guitar, orchestra, theater and visual arts, serving all schools in the district. 
 
He also will oversee AISD's Performing Arts Center, a 2008 bond-funded facility with a 1,2

State in Sight: Bowie Softball Aims for Final Four

The Bowie High School softball team's one-run victory over Oak Ridge landed the Lady Bulldawgs two wins away from the state tournament. 

The team advanced to the regional finals with a 5-4 triumph.

"I believe it showed how much passion we have for the game," said senior infielder Meagan Ramos. "It also proves how close we are as a team and how bad we want to win each and every inning."

District Honors Best of AISD at Annual Salute Celebration

Austin ISD and Austin Partners in Education co-hosted Salute on May 16 at the AISD Performing Arts Center.

More than 1,000 people attended the annual event that celebrates excellence at AISD and recognizes outstanding team members.

Austin Council of PTAs and the Texas Department of Public Safety mentor program were inducted into the APIE Hall of Fame.

The event also recognized hundreds of Teachers of Promise and campus teachers of the year. 

Austin ISD Faculty Art Show Opening Reception

The 2017 Austin ISD Faculty Art Show will be on exhibit at Canopy Studios in Austin.

This year's show features more than 30 faculty artists representing a wide variety of media, including ceramics, painting and photography.

The talent of our arts educators is an invaluable part of the successes of our AISD students and programs.

All are invited to support our teachers and celebrate the arts in AISD and the community.

The exhibit runs May 26–June 3 at Canopy Studios, 916 Springdale Road.

AISD Breaks Ground on Career Launch Programs

Austin ISD broke ground on Career Launch programs at two early college high schools this month. 

LBJ Early College High School celebrated the groundbreaking of an approximately 5,000-square-foot building May 13 to accommodate a new health science initiative.

The program, a partnership with Seton Healthcare Family and Austin Community College, allows students to earn an associate degree in health science, preparing them to further their education in the medical field.
