District Investigating Social Media Threats Made by People Dressed as Clowns / AISD está investigando amenazas hechas a través de las redes sociales

Ausitn ISD police are investigating social media threats made by people dressed as clowns against Reagan and Travis Early College High Schools and Martin Middle School. Schools across the state and the country have received similar threats today and yesterday. 

Threats of any kind against our school, students and staff will be investigated immediately and are not tolerated. We encourage our community to report threatening behavior of any kind so police may investigate and we can work together to keep our campus safe.

New Sustainability Manager Adds Another Shade of Green

Darien Clary was hired as Austin ISD’s new sustainability manager.

Sustainability is a part of AISD's mission to prepare students for college, career and life by providing opportunities that encourage students to be environmentally aware and involved in their communities.

As sustainability manager, Clary will refine and manage the roadmap for AISD to become an environmentally, socially and economically sustainable school district in air quality, energy, food, nature, procurement, transportation, waste and water. 

Educators to Collaborate with Software Developers to Improve Classroom Tech

This weekend, Austin ISD partners with EdSurge to host a technology for schools summit. The summit is an opportunity for Austin-area educators and administrators to network with software developers and give valuable input and feedback on existing and developing technology tools for the classroom.

The event is 8 a.m.–3 p.m. Sept. 30–Oct. 1 at the Austin ISD Performing Arts Center

Green Machine: Eastside Memorial High School Recognized as First Green Flag High School in Texas

Eastside Memorial High School is being recognized for its campuswide environmental efforts. The National Wildlife Federation will name Eastside Memorial as an Eco-Schools USA Green Flag school—the first high school in Texas to earn the designation.

The school is also being honored as a 2016 Zero Waste Champion and Bright Green Future grant recipient.

What: A presentation of the green flag at the flagpole will be followed by optional tours of the school.

When: 11:30 a.m.–noon Saturday, Oct. 1

Bowie High School Soccer Player Helps Young Athletes in Bid for Eagle Scout

Matthew Demerson had a lofty goal—so he decided to build a couple of them to accomplish it.

The Bowie High School junior and Eagle Scout candidate led his fellow Boy Scouts from Troop 403 in collecting donations to build soccer goals at Casey Elementary School.

"I chose Casey because I wanted to help students that perhaps don't have the same opportunities as me," Demerson said. "Casey is a Title I school and therefore I knew there was a need to shine light on the advantages of sports in a fun, but tangible and positive manner."

Eastside Memorial HS will be recognized for its campus wide environmental efforts at 11:30 a.m. on October 1 on campus. EMHS is the first high school in Texas to be awarded the Eco-Schools USA Green Flag from the National Wildlife Federation.

Eastside Memorial is also honored as 2016 Zero Waste Champions and is a Bright Green Futures grant recipient.

2016 Legislative Session: AISD Testifies on Recapture

This morning, Austin ISD CFO Nicole Conley testified on the current school finance system, focusing on the hardships created for AISD by the recapture system. 


Good afternoon, Chairman Otto, Chairman Aycock and members of the Committees. My name is Nicole Conley and I serve as the Chief Financial Officer for the Austin Independent School District. I appreciate the opportunity to come before you to discuss recapture and its effect on Austin ISD and Austin taxpayers.

Paredes Middle School is Operational and Classes will Resume on Sept. 28

This weekend, a pipe burst on the third floor of Paredes Middle School’s academic building, flooding classrooms, the basement and administrative spaces.

The school is operational again, and classes will resume tomorrow, Sept. 28.

Some students will attend classes in other classrooms on campus, but all students should arrive for class for their normal B day schedule tomorrow. All after-school activities will also resume on their normal schedule.
