Classes Resume at Paredes Middle School on Sept. 28 / Clases en la secundaria Paredes se reanudarán el 28 de septiembre

Paredes Middle School is operational again, and classes will resume tomorrow, Sept. 28. 

Some students will attend classes in other rooms on campus, but all students should arrive for class for their normal B day schedule tomorrow. All after-school activities will also resume on their normal schedule.

AISD Hires HUB Program Director to Increase Diversity in Contract Awards

Debra Dibble Boone was appointed as Austin ISD's first Historically Underutilized Business program director.
 
The HUB director position was created as part of the implementation of a new program that establishes goals for the level of participation among women- and minority-owned businesses.
 
Boone will provide contract procurement and construction management direction in small and minority business relationships for AISD.

Austin ISD CFO to Testify on Recapture at House of Representatives Hearing

Austin ISD Chief Financial Officer Nicole Conley will testify on recapture at the Texas House of Representatives committees on appropriations and public education this week.

What: Conley will testify before the House on recapture and its effects on AISD and Austin taxpayers.

When: Public hearing begins at 9 a.m. Sept. 28. An exact time for her testimony is unknown.

Where: Texas Capitol Building, 1100 Congress Ave., Capitol Extension E1.030

Classes Canceled for Paredes Middle School Students on Tuesday, Sept. 27

This weekend, a pipe burst on the third floor of Paredes Middle School’s academic building, flooding classrooms, the basement and administrative spaces.

Because of ongoing work to clean up and restore the building, all classes are canceled for Tuesday, Sept. 27. All after-school activities are also canceled for Tuesday.

After an assessment today, Austin ISD facilities staff and outside remediation experts anticipate the school will be operational Wednesday. Staff members are working on a plan for Wednesday.

We will send another update tomorrow with more information.

Teaching Electoral Engagement Early

When walking into a seventh-grade classroom, voting and politics likely aren’t the first things that come to mind, even in an election year. 

Thoughts of math, science, tests, homework and what’s for lunch abound. But during an election year, if you ask students what they’ve seen in the media recently, one of the likely responses will be “presidential candidates A and B.”
