Home is Where the School Is

“The quality of area schools is consistently one of the most important factors that homebuyers consider when choosing a new home,” said Austin Board of Realtors President Barb Cooper. "Homebuyers want to know how local schools measure up, and they look to their Realtor to point them in the right direction.”

That’s why Austin ISD and the Austin Board of Realtors have partnered to educate local Realtors on neighborhood schools, equipping them with the knowledge to be expert resources for their clients.

Austin Selected as only Texas Community to Join White House STEM Ecosystem Initiative

AISD Superintendent Paul Cruz joined Austin community partners today for the kickoff of the National STEM Ecosystem Initiative at the White House.

Austin is one of 27 communities in the country, and the only one in Texas, selected to join the first group of the STEM initiative.

“There’s a reason Austin is called ‘Silicon Hills.’ Our city is one of the greatest tech hubs in the nation and it makes sense that we create an effective ecosystem to maximize student opportunities in our STEM-focused economy,” Cruz said.

Texas First Lady Cecilia Abbott to Speak at College Readiness Conference

Webb Early College Prep Middle School is hosting an event called ENCORE Family & Student Conference: Engaging our Community in College Readiness. 

The conference includes breakout sessions for families and programs for students focusing on overcoming barriers and supporting academic success. The event includes a free holiday dinner of turkey and side dishes. 

Bowie High School Expands Bakery for Culinary Arts Program

The students and staff of the Bowie High School Culinary Arts Program unveil their new bakery at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 9. Bulldog Bakery students will serve freshly baked cake, cookies and coffee, and will offer tours of the renovated space.

Chef Richard Winemiller, who has instructed Bowie students since 1999, said the space is important for students to get experience in an environment that operates as much like a professional kitchen as possible.
