Murchison Musicians to Perform at National Festival in March

The Murchison Middle School Wind Ensemble has been accepted as one of five bands in the U.S. to perform at the Middle School National Music Festival in Indianapolis in March. The festival is part of the 2016 Music For All National Festival, presented by Yamaha.

This is the first time the Murchison band program has been chosen to perform at the national level. The Wind Ensemble is the only Austin band to be accepted.

Lanier High School Fine Arts Winter Extravaganza

This end-of-semester concert for the fine arts department at Lanier High School brings together the wind ensemble, symphonic band, beginning band, jazz combo, orchestra, choir and visual artist.

Performances begin at 6 p.m. Dec. 10 in the Lanier auditiorium.

Admission to this spectacular event is free and open to all students, families and community members.

23rd Annual Capitol City Marching Contest

Students, families and the community are invited to join Austin ISD student musicians at the 23rd annual Capitol City Marching Contest!

High school bands from throughout Texas will perform their UIL marching show for the audience.

Expert judges score each performance for proficiency and technical ability in four areas: music, marching, color guard and percussion. Each band is considered on its own merit for style, theme and approach.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children 5 years old and older. Parking is free at the Toney Burger Center. Concessions are also available.

Performances begin at 12:30 p.m. and an awards ceremony concludes the day at 9:30 p.m.

Homecoming parade/ Fall Festival

Lanier High School invites everyone to join us Saturday, Sept. 26, for our annual Homecoming Parade and Fall Festival!

The parade is 10–11 a.m. and features Lanier clubs and student organizations. The Lanier Marching Band and Vikettes will lead the marchers around the school. 

After the parade, families and community members are encouraged to stay for the Fall Festival, beginning at 11 a.m. Attendees may purchase tickets during the festival to participate in games and purchase crafts and refreshments. 

EDF Climate Corps Fellow Uncovers Energy-saving Opportunities for Local Schools

Austin ISD hosted 2015 EDF Climate Corps Fellow Maxwell Sykes this summer to help the district better manage its energy use and costs. Sykes presented his findings at a community showcase on September 17 where he outlined a plan for achieving estimated annual energy cost savings of $1.7 million to $5.2 million per year. 

Marathon Kids and Austin ISD Launch Partnership for Physical Activity

Marathon Kids and AISD will be celebrating and kicking off a game-changing partnership to take youth exercise in Austin to the next level.

Over the course of the year, all AISD elementary school students will be encouraged to run or walk the equivalent of four marathons, or 104.8 miles, during the first 10 minutes of Working out for Wellness time.
