STAAR-A and the Dyslexic Student

The Austin ISD offices of Systemwide Testing and 504 Services invite families and educators to attend "STAAR-A and the Dyslexic Student."

The meeting will include information about STAAR standardized oral administration.

Chris Cordell, director of systemwide testing, and Dr. Rachel Robillard, administrative supervisor of 504 Services, will review eligibility requirements, online tools, accessibility features and embedded accommodations.

MEDIA ADVISORY: AISD’s Own Among Austin’s Fab Five for Making a Difference with At-risk Youth

On March 5, Seedling Foundation will honor Austin ISD’s Executive Director of School, Family and Community Education Gloria Williams, Ed.D., for making a difference in the lives of at-risk children.

Along with Williams, Robert Koke, Judge Orlinda Naranjo, SaulPaul and Vince Young will be honored at Seedling’s second annual Fab Five event.

MEDIA ADVISORY: AISD Sustainability Projects Keep Austin Beautiful

Two Austin ISD students and Lamar Middle School will be recognized as 2015 finalists at the Keep Austin Beautiful Annual Awards brunch tomorrow.

Martin Middle School seventh grader Carlos Venegas and Eastside Memorial High School senior Lorenzo Sanchez have been named Youth Achievement Finalists. They are chosen for implementing or maintaining outstanding youth projects or activities to clean, beautify or restore an area or promote environmental stewardship.

Dr. Cruz Speaks To The Next Generation

Dr. Paul Cruz, Superintendent at Austin Independent School District was the keynote speaker at the Young Hispanic Professional Association of Austin and HABLA's "Shaping the Community" event. His vision is clear: Making sure every AISD student has the resources to be successful in order to be a future leader in their community. Dr. Cruz explained that local Latino leaders and organizations such as YHPAA and HABLA are helping to pave that path for Latino youth.

Vision+Voice Student Poetry Contest Now Accepting Submissions

Calling all poets! The second annual Vision+Voice student poetry contest is seeking your submissions.

Vision+Voice is a partnership between Austin ISD and the Department of Arts and Humanities at Austin Community College.

A panel of published poets will select one winning poem per grade and one for languages other than English at the elementary and secondary levels.

Media Advisory: Media Lunch and LearnAISD’s Legislative Priorities

Austin ISD continues its Lunch and Learn series for the media with an overview of the district’s legislative priorities, including school finance, early childhood education and the state’s new graduation pathways.

What:  Superintendent Paul Cruz, Chief Financial Officer Nicole Conley and Intergovernmental Relations Director Edna Butts will provide information about AISD’s legislative priorities. They also will be available to answer questions.

When: 11:45 a.m.–12:45 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2.

Feria Para Aprender

This educational experience for the whole familiy features a planetarium, technology zone, free books, health screenings, eye exams and more. Hundreds of vendors are on hand for this free event.

Feria para Aprender is 10 a.m.–3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, at ACC Highland Mall, 6001 Airport Blvd.

2014–15 Parent and Families Survey Now Available

The Austin ISD 2014–15 Parent and Families Survey is now open and accepting responses through March 31.

Parents throughout the district are encouraged to participate so they can share input on district and campus performance.

The survey includes questions about how well school staff and leadership communicate with parents, how easily parents may communicate about their students and learn about programs offered at their school. 

The results will help inform district leadership on how best to improve services for our students.
