MEDIA ADVISORY: Summitt Elementary School to Celebrate the Year of the Goat

Summitt Elementary School is gearing up to celebrate Tet, the most important and popular holiday in Vietnam.

What: A fundraising dinner, followed by a performance followed by a dragon dance. The performance includes a martial arts demonstration, singing, dancing and taiko drums. Tickets are $3 for general seating, $5-10 for seating in the first 10 rows and $5 for dinner.

Nonprofit Recognizes Garza Independence High School Counselor for Dedication to Students

Counselor Yvonne Espinoza has earned the Counselors That Change Lives award from national nonprofit Colleges That Change Lives.

Espinoza, a Project Advance college counselor at Gonzalo Garza Independence High School earned the award for work that reflects the mission of CTCL: to promote and support a student-centered college search process.

O. Henry Middle School Partners with Food Provider in Pilot Program

O. Henry Middle School has partnered with Revolution Foods in a six-month pilot program to provide healthy, affordable meals to students. This event will celebrate the first month of partnership.

LASA Student One of 91 in World to Earn Perfect Score on AP Test

Austin ISD congratulates Liberal Arts and Science Academy senior Sesha McMinn for earning a perfect score on her AP Spanish Language and Culture exam. 

When the College Board released details of the 2014 tests recently, LASA officials learned that McMinn was one of only 91 students in the world to earn every point possible on the AP Spanish Language and Culture exam. 

My Go Red Day at Austin ISD–By Mathews Elementary School Student Pauline Caldwell

Hi! This is Pauline Caldwell, a sixth-grader at Mathews Elementary. I am shadowing Ms. Blair at Austin ISD, and I get to learn about all of the cool things she does.

Today also happens to be the Go Red day where everyone in Austin ISD participates in wearing the color red in effort to raise awareness that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in the United States.

AVID Certifies Bedichek as a National Demonstration School

On Feb. 4, Bedichek Middle School was selected to join the ranks of approximately 140 AVID National Demonstration Schools.

AVID—Advancement Via Individual Determination—is a kindergarten through postsecondary curriculum that aims to turn underperforming students into college-going scholars and graduates.

"It is a tremendous honor to be selected as a demo, and we are proud of our AVID program and our school as a whole," said Principal Dan Diehl. "We are fired up."
