Volunteers, Staff Work to Beautify Blackshear Elementary School

Nearly 300 volunteers and 60 AISD staff members began work at Blackshear Elementary School this morning on an extensive project to beautify and improve the school grounds.

Blackshear Principal Betty Jenkins said she couldn't thank the workers enough for their help improving the look of the campus.

"This is a dream come true for me," Jenkins said. "I have a 16-page wish list of projects, and after today our school will have a new track, paved walkways and freshly painted doors. Without all these volunteers, this work would have taken months to do."

Austin—On Nov. 4, election day, AISDTV Channel 22 will be a source for the latest election results for the Austin Independent School District board election. The full board consists of nine members; five trustee seats are up for election.

What: Additionally, during election day presentation of the AISD Board of Trustee candidates can be viewed on AISDTV Channel 22. 

When: AISD Board of Trustee candidates presentations will run 8 a.m–7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Austin ISD Board of Trustees Approves Appointment of Director of Recruiting and Staffing

On Oct. 27, the Austin ISD Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Kristen Hilsabeck, PHR, as director of recruiting and staffing. Hilsabeck has a 13-year history with the district, having served as human resources technician/certification analyst, staffing specialist, substitute services coordinator and professional human resources coordinator in charge of high schools.

AISD Asks Community for Input on Direction for Next Five Years

AUSTIN—Austin ISD is holding three community meetings this fall to gather community input to develop its 2015-20 Strategic Plan. 

Strategic planning will help AISD focus its energy, ensuring that we the district and its community partners are working toward a unified goal. The plan will also ensure the district continues to assess and adjust its direction as needed.

The 2015-20 Strategic Plan will help guide the district from where it is now to where the community wants and needs it to be by 2020.

Austin ISD Hosts Speaker and Storyteller Roberto Rivera

On Oct. 29, three AISD schools will host motivational speaker and storyteller Roberto Rivera. The event is part of AISD's participation in the My Brother's Keeper Initiative and the district's pledge to the president of the United States and the Council of the Great City Schools. Mr. Rivera will share his personal story and address working with boys and families of color.
