Austin ISD Celebrates American Indian Heritage Month

Austin ISD is proud to recognize November as American Indian Heritage Month. The district will celebrate with special events, including a brown bag documentary series at the central office, plus participation in the 23rd Annual Austin Powwow and American Indian Heritage Festival. For details on the documentary series, contact Norma Garza Mittanck at (512) 414-0023.

AISD supports Native American students all year long through the American Indian Education Program. The program provides a variety of services inlcuding tutoring, college preparation assistance, summer camp, a reading program and weekly drumming and beading sessions. 

National American Indian Heritage Month was designated in 1990 by a joint resolution approved by President George H. W. Bush.
