Austin ISD presents at The Kennedy Center’s Any Given Child Exchange

The Kennedy Center's Education Division of the National Partnerships held its annual Any Given Child (AGC) Exchange in Arlington, VA on February 11-12, 2014.

The AGC Exchange convenes selected cities to share best practices and new strategies around equity, access and quality in creative learning opportunities.

Representatives from public school districts, arts and education organizations, arts and humanities councils, foundations, and government officials from arts and economic development departments were in attendance from the following cities:

AISD Invites Community to Help Name North Central Elementary School No. 2

AUSTIN, Texas—Austin ISD’s  Board of Trustees invites community members to submit nominations for the name of a new elementary school campus in north Austin. The school, located at 2011 W. Rundberg Lane, is under construction and scheduled to open in August.

The nomination process will close on March 16 at midnight. The school board is scheduled to take action in April.

Make-Up Day Monday, Feb. 17, for AISD Schools and Offices

Austin ISD appreciates your cooperation during the recent inclement weather days, which caused district-wide cancelations and late starts at AISD schools and district offices.

As per the AISD board approved 2013-14 school year calendar, Monday, Feb. 17, will serve as a make-up day for recent inclement weather and ensure that AISD students do not lose important and required instructional time in the classroom.

31st Annual African American Heritage Celebration

Austin ISD will be honoring the heritage of African Americans and the legacies that have been left throughout the school district. In addition, the district will honor students for their consistent academic success, honoring fourth and 10th grade students for their competitive essays as the winners of a district-wide essay competition and honoring community leaders/ stakeholders as specific award winners in the areas of: Giving, Educational Leadership, Volunteer Service, Distinguished Service and others.

Latin Club Students in Anderson Vertical Team take High Honors in State Competition

Ten students from Murchison Middle School attended the Texas Junior Classical League Latin Convention on Feb. 8 and competed in academic, mythology, speaking, art, and costume competitions. Murchison's Latin Club took home nine awards--three gold, three silver and three bronze.

Fourteen students from Anderson High School also competed in the Latin tournament and received individual 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place recognitions in the areas of Latin cuture, history, literature and poetry.

Travis Rebel Golf Tournament

The community is invited to participate in the 3rd Annual Travis Rebel Footbal Golf Tournament at Riverside Golf Couse, 1020 Grove Blvd. 

The event will benefit the Travis High School football program and is $70 per person. There will be a 2 p.m. shot gun start. 

Door prizes will be awarded and barbecue plates will be served to all participants.

Media Advisory: Anderson High School Hosts Austin Robot Roundup, First Robotics Competition

AUSTIN, Texas—This weekend, Austin ISD’s Anderson High School is hosting Austin Robot Roundup, First Robotics Competition to showcase local robotic designs.

What: Robotics teams from Anderson, Eastside Memorial, LASA, Akins, Westlake, Westwood, Round Rock and Manor Tech will compete and collaborate locally before competing at the state level.

When: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15
