AISD has partnered with TEDxYouth to support the upcoming TEDxYouth@Austin Second Annual Conference.
TEDxYouth@Austin, an event connected with TED Talks, is a completely student-led event that invites speakers from all over the US to talk about ideas worth spreading. This year’s theme, Re: Solve, focuses on taking action, making changes physically occur, the process of repeating tasks again and again, and the journey of solving problems and overcoming challenges.
On the following Saturdays, AISD will have courses to prepare seniors who still need to pass TAKS as well as classes to prepare all ninth-12th graders to pass the ELA EOC exam. All are invited to attend, and pizza will be served. Community Service hours will be given.

The Ladies of Distinction were honored by the African American Heritage Committee on Jan. 20 at the state Capitol for their volunteer services in their community. This was an amazing honor that showed a true representation of how positive things do occur in the greater east Austin area.
The Ladies of Distinction were established in 2012 and have quickly grown from six to 30 members in fewer than two years. They were founded by Kerrie Carter, a teacher and coach at LBJ High School, who had a vision to inspire young women to change their lives.
As per the Education Code, “instructional materials selected for use in public schools shall be furnished without cost to students attending those schools”. Each school district is entitled to an annual allotment from the state instructional materials fund for each student enrolled in the district.
