District 5: League of Women Voters Community Meeting

Where: Austin High School, 1715 West Cesar Chavez

What: The League of Women Voters of the Austin Area will host a community conversation that will focus on issues that are particular concern in District 5. Participation requires pre-registration. You may register by emailing Nancy Oelklaus at nancyoelklaus@gmail.com.


Coffee, breakfast tacos, and interpretation services will be provided.

Blackshear Elementary School Hosts Take Your Parents to School Week Dec. 16-20

AUSTIN, Texas--Blackshear Elementary School is putting its own spin on "Take your Son or Daughter to Work Day" by hosting "Take Your Parents to School" Dec. 16 through Dec. 20.

Throughout the week, parents can schedule time in their son or daughter's classroom to observe and experience the teaching and learning processes that have made Blackshear an exemplary school.

Bedichek Luminaria Lighting

Bedichek Middle School will celebrate its first Luminaria Lighting with choral and instrumental performances by their music department as well as a group sing-along and refreshments.  This festive event, which the SCORES program helped faciliate, seeks to promote and celebrate the cultural diversity at Bedichek, affirm community unity, instill school pride, and celebrate the changing of the season.  Guests from all faiths, ages, and backgrounds are welcomed to attend. 

Anderson HS Among Only a Few in the Nation Recognized by College Board for Excellence in Arts

Anderson High School has been awarded the National College Board’s Award for Excellence and Innovation in the Arts. The school is one of only a handful in the nation to receive the prestigious award in 2013. 

The awards celebrate schools whose arts programming promotes learning and creativity in innovative and exemplary ways, and provide funding to assist educators in sustaining and expanding their arts programs. 

Pickle Elementary Earns Recognition from Keep Austin Beautiful Organization

Last week during the 28th Annual Keep Austin Beautiful Awards Luncheon, the Keep Austin Beautiful organization honored Pickle Elementary School as the best of the best in Austin for their campus beautification efforts. The school was honored along with other individuals and groups for their efforts to enhance and protect Austin's environment.
