Counseling, 24-hour Hotline Available for Students, Community Following Incident at Lanier

AUSTIN, Texas—Following a tragedy at Lanier High School today in which a student succumbed to a fatal, self-inflicted wound at approximately 12:04 p.m., AISD continues to provide counseling services until 6 p.m. today, and throughout the week.

The AISD community is deeply saddened by this and our thoughts are with the family.

AISD PD Report Student Shot Himself at Lanier

The AISD community is deeply saddened to report a student shot himself at Lanier High School earlier today, Tuesday, Oct. 15. The student has succumbed to the wound. 

Counseling services have been available to students, families and staff since the incident today. Students can continue to receive counseling services in the Lanier High School’s Health Science wing next to the theater until 6 p.m. today and the remainder of the week.

AISD Statement on Incident at Lanier High School

AUSTIN, TX—The Austin Independent School District released the following statement from Superintendent Meria Carstarphen regarding an incident today at Lanier High School:

“Based on the information available to us at this time, I regret to inform you that a student shot himself at Lanier High School a short while ago. The student has succumbed to the wound. And, the students at the campus who were on lockdown are being released to their homes.

City of Austin, NI Recognized by State Board of Education for Contributions to AISD

Austin ISD depends on its partners, local businesses and volunteer groups to help support the district’s more than 85,000 students each day.

Two of these partners were recognized for their work recently by the State Board of Education, which awarded the City of Austin and National Instruments the 2013 Employers for Education Excellence (EEE) Award.

The two were recognized for their work with AISD and are among 12 other Texas employers to receive the 2013 EEE award, which is designed to promote more community involvement in public schools.
