AISD, Whole Kids Foundation Partner to Offer Free, Nutritional Workshops to District Employees

As part of its ongoing initiatives to help improve the health and wellness of its employees, the Austin Independent School District is teaming up with two educational nonprofit organizations to offer free, nutritional workshops to district employees.    

Staff members will have the opportunity to attend one of two six-hour workshops on either May 9-10 or May 11. The free workshops are valued at $250 per person, and will cover such topics as how branding can shape our shopping and eating habits, as well as provide easy-to-use strategies for making healthy choices.

LBJ/LASA Orchestra Earn Top Honors at National Band and Orchestra Festival

Last week, the LBJ/LASA orchestra traveled to New York City to compete against eight other schools from across the country in the National Band and Orchestra Festival at Carnegie Hall.

A panel of judges selected the LBJ/LASA orchestra as the best of the bunch, inviting them to perform in an evening concert at the famous venue before an audience of more than 2,000.

AUSTIN, TX­—Allison Elementary School students are receiving a special visit by Jared Fogel, who inspired many Americans to eat healthier after he trimmed his waist nearly in half based on a Subway diet.

2013 JROTC End of Year Awards Banquet

Travis High School will host a special awards ceremony for its JROTC Cadets to recognize their outstanding performance during the 2012-13 school year. Guests at the assembly will include representatives from the following:

National College Fair Held in Austin April 9; AISD Students Encouraged to Attend

One of the largest college fairs in the nation will be held in Austin Tuesday, April 9, and students in the Austin Independent School District are encouraged to attend to learn about their college options.

The Austin National College Fair is free, open to the public and will provide valuable resources for students and parents attempting to navigate the college-admission process.

What: Has your student expressed an interest in becoming a chef, computer programmer, tourism guide or owning their own automotive shop?

Austin ISD would like to invite you to share your feedback on potential academic programming options for career and technical education in the areas of hospitality and tourism, information technology, transportation and new concepts like video game development.

The career and technical education community meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, May 23, in the cafeteria at Eastside Memorial High School.
