State of the District Showcase

Join the Austin ISD community Tuesday, Nov. 13, to celebrate the district's outstanding programs in academics, athletics and the arts. 

During the 2012 State of the District Address Showcase, Superintendent Meria Carstarphen will highlight team AISD's achievements and goals as we bring our communities together to strengthen support for all of our students, staff members and schools.

Special Presentation: Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu

What:The Austin Independent School District invites the community to attend a special presentation by Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu, a celebrated author and speaker on topics that address diversity in urban school districts. The special presentation will address ways to close the racial academic achievement gap and how to develop students to become self-disciplined. The event will include remarks by Dr. Kunjufu and AISD students and leaders, as well as a question and answer session. Dr. Kunjufu is a graduate of Morgan State University and the Union Graduate College. An expert in issues related to racial disparities in public education, Dr. Kunjufu has been a guest on Oprah and frequents the Michael Baisden show. He has spoken at universities across the country and has provided consulting services to many urban school districts. Child care and interpretation services will be provided. Community Invited to Special Presentation on Closing the Racial Academic Achievement Gap

Austin, TX—The Austin Independent School District invites the community to attend a special presentation tomorrow evening by Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu, a celebrated author and speaker who will present on ways to close the racial academic achievement gap and to develop students to become self-disciplined.

The event will include remarks by Dr. Kunjufu and AISD students and leaders, as well as a question and answer session.

What: BAC Public Hearing.  Child care and interpretation services will be provided.

The Boundary Advisory Committee (BAC) is charged with developing recommendations for the creation of, and adjustment to, school attendance zone boundaries.  

The BAC has developed a preliminary comprehensive scope of work and is seeking community input before moving forward with a recommendation to AISD's Superintendent. For more information please call (512) 414-2667.

Live Fire Skill Day

What: The LBJ Fire Academy senior students will conduct a live fire skill day where they will engage and extinguish a car fire, a dumpster fire, and a structure fire. During the structure fire students will perform ventilation, forcible entry, search, and extinguishment tasks. The students will operate in teams and rotate between the various fires and roles. Anticipate 5 rotations.

Liberal Arts and Science Academy Hosts “Road Show” for Prospective Applicants

The Austin School District's Liberal Arts and Science Academy High School (LASA) is putting on a “LASA Road Show” throughout the month of October to provide information about the academic magnet high school to parents and students. All eighth-grade students, their parents and others interested in enrolling in the academy are invited to attend the informational meetings, which are occurring at schools across the city.
