AISD partners with local grassroots group to promote increased physical activity among students

At 11 a.m. on Thursday Oct. 11, students at Pecan Springs Early College Prep will get a crash course in healthy living from various health experts as part of the Healthy Places, Healthy People program—a community initiative that aims to make healthy food available in every neighborhood and encourages healthy habits in schools.

What: Established in 1972, Roy Bedichek Middle School is hosting our 40th Anniversary/Fund Raiser celebration on Saturday, November 10, 2012, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. A special ceremony to honor distinguished alumni and guests begins at 10:30 a.m. with presentation of colors by our Junior Marine Corps of Cadets. What: The Austin Independent School District invites the community to celebrate the dedication of the Anita Uphaus Early Childhood Center on Sunday, November 4, at 2 p.m.  

The Uphaus Early Childhood Center is the eighth new school and sixth new elementary funded by the district's 2008 Bond Program. Built on approximately seven acres, the Anita Uphaus Early Childhood Center was designed to be environmentally sensitive and educationally energetic. 

School tours will begin at 1 p.m.

OfficeMax Surprises 5 AISD Teachers with $1,000 in School Supplies; Educators Honored as part of A Day Made Better Program

Austin, TX—Today, five teachers in the Austin Independent School District received a surprise visit from their school principals and OfficeMax representatives who awarded them $1,000 in classroom supplies. The teachers are among 1,000 educators nationally who were nominated by their principals for OfficeMax's A Day Made Better program, which honors teachers for their extraordinary efforts in the classroom.
