Celebrate: Honoring Volunteers in Our Schools

Austin Partners in Education, in partnership with Austin ISD, is proud to present Celebrate, an evening dedicated to honoring AISD volunteers. The event will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Thursday, May 3 at the Delco Center, 4601 Pecan Brook Dr. Please join Superintendent Meria Carstarphen, State Representative Donna Howard, Wells Fargo Community Bank President Mark Curry and Board of Trustees President Mark Williams in recognizing PTA of the Year, Partner in Education Coordinator of the Year, APIE Partner of the Year and APIE Hall of Fame inductee.

Austin ISD Hosts Preliminary Budget and Annual Academic and Facilities Recommendations Community Meetings

Austin, TX—The Austin Independent School District will host two meetings for a community conversation about the preliminary budget for 2013 and scenarios for new, academic programs for the 2013-2014 school year. The Board of Trustees will approve the budget for FY 2013 in June.

The meetings are:

6 – 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 3

Reagan High School, 7104 Berkman Dr.

6 – 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 17

Bowie High School, 4103 Slaughter Lane

Salute: A Tribute to Teaching Excellence

Salute, a tribute to teaching excellence throughout the district will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 23 (student performances begin at 5 p.m.) at the Long Center for the Performing Arts. This annual event, co-hosted by Austin ISD and Austin Partners in Education, will include a program recognizing our teachers, performances by students and a special reception. At Salute, we will also name the Austin Teacher of the Year, who will serve as the District’s nominee for the Texas Teacher of the Year Program.

O. Henry Students to Chat Live with Astronauts on the International Space Station

Austin, TX—Students at O. Henry Middle School will learn about living and working in space by speaking with Expedition 30 Commander Dan Burbank and Flight Engineers Don Pettit and Andre Kuipers aboard the International Space Station (ISS) Tuesday, April 3. Through their science classes, more than 100 students in sixth- through eighth-grade will participate in a live question-and-answer session that will be broadcast live on NASA Television.

U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith is expected to join the group for this special event.
