The McCallum Fine Arts Academy Orchestra presents A Mother's Day Celebration Concert, featuring Austin's First Lady of Jazz, Pamela Hart. The concert will be held from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Friday, May 11 at the McCallum Fine Arts Academy Theater, 5600 Sunshine Dr. The concert is directed by Georgeann Shockley and will include musical arrangements by Will Taylor and Michael Ramos. This concert promises to be an unforgettable delight for mom and the entire family. Join us!
Last week, more than 125 sixth- through eighth-graders at O. Henry Middle School learned about life in orbit, by speaking with three astronauts who are flying above Earth in the International Space Station. Through their science classes, the students participated in a live question-and-answer session with Expedition 30 Commander Dan Burbank and Flight Engineers Don Pettit and Andre Kuipers (right). NASA Television broadcast the live discussion.
Austin, TX—Anderson High School students will learn a valuable life lesson during "Shattered Dreams", a program designed to educate students about the tragic consequences of drinking and driving. A dramatization of an alcohol related crash will be held, complete with police and EMS response and the arrest of a "drunk driver." In addition, a student will be taken out of class every 20 minutes to represent the statistic that someone dies every 20 minutes from an alcohol-related incident.
Austin, TX—Austin Independent School District is home to 76 high school seniors who have earned national recognition for their exemplary performance in the National Merit Scholarship Program, the National Hispanic Recognition Program and the National Achievement Scholarship Program for 2012. The students are now eligible for scholarship awards from universities, colleges, and other grantors.
