Purpose

The purpose of the Advocacy Advisory Committee is to assist the district in advancing its legislative priorities at the local, state and federal level.  The Committee’s advocacy shall be in alignment with the district’s priorities, as adopted by the Board of Trustees. Its responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Becoming informed how local, state, and federal governmental action impacts Austin ISD;
• Recommend legislative priorities to the district and the Board;
• Connect with parents, teachers, administrators, taxpayers, and students, empowering them to engage with elected officials; and 
• Collaborate with the Austin community to advance the legislative priorities adopted by the Board of Trustees.

When advocating, committee members may only identify themselves as members of the AAC if they are advocating in alignment with a Board-adopted priority and in alignment with that messaging.

Propósito

El propósito del Comité Consultivo de Apoyo (AAC, por sus siglas en inglés) es ayudar al distrito a promover sus prioridades legislativas a nivel local, estatal y federal. El apoyo del comité estará alineado con las prioridades del distrito, según lo aprobado por la mesa directiva. Sus responsabilidades incluirán, pero no se limitarán a lo siguiente:

• informarse acerca de cómo las medidas locales, estatales y federales afectan al Austin ISD;
• recomendar prioridades legislativas al distrito y a la mesa directiva;
• conectarse con padres de familia, maestros, administradores, contribuyentes y estudiantes, empoderándolos para que participen con los funcionarios electos; y 
• colaborar con la comunidad de Austin para promover las prioridades legislativas adoptadas por la mesa directiva

Al apoyar, los miembros del comité solo se pueden identificar como miembros del AAC si están abogando alineados con una prioridad aprobada por la mesa directiva y con ese mensaje.
