End-of-Year Review Highlights AISD Successes
AISD began the 2013–14 school year on Aug. 26, 2013, with more than 85,000 students, including 561 Grizzlies at the district’s newest facility, Janis Guerrero Thompson Elementary, which opened this year. During the first week of school, Superintendent Dr. Meria Carstarphen and other district leaders visited 14 schools to welcome students and staff.
Ann Richards School Celebrates 89 Young Women Leaders
The Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders graduated 89 seniors at the Frank Erwin Center. This is the school’s fourth graduating class. AISD Closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday
The Austin Independent School District will be closed for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, Monday, Jan. 15.All AISD offices and schools will be closed during this period. The district will resume regular business and school hours Tuesday, Jan. 16.

70 Austin ISD Students Attend Andy Roddick Foundation Summer Learning Program
Students lined colorful beach towels at Pecan Springs Elementary School’s lawn today practicing yoga as part of the Andy Roddick Foundation Summer Learning Program. This five-week summer program allows more than 70 Austin-area students in kindergarten through fifth grade to attend summer camp and participate in activities from gardening to robotics.

But during an election year, if you ask students what they’ve seen in the media recently, one of the likely responses will be “presidential candidates A and B.”
