An Update on Special Education
Board considers tax rate election to raise funds for teacher and staff raises (En español)
A VATRE would ask the community to consider approving a tax rate that would allow Austin ISD to gain an estimated $44M in funding annually. Why it matters: Those additional funds would help Austin ISD continue to recruit and retain highly-qualified teachers and staff by funding pay increases.
Increased school funding could come at the cost of vouchers (En español)
As the second week of the special legislative session started, Austin ISD has its eye on two important bills passed by the Senate: SB 1 and SB 2. SB 1 would give some Texas families tax dollars to pay for private school, commonly referred to as school vouchers.

School Safety and Security Committee (SSSC) Meeting
This meeting will be held at Central Office, 4000 S. IH 35 Frontage Road (more details on the agenda). The districtwide School Safety and Security Committee must meet by law at least three times per year to discuss current concerns of the district as well as to inform security practices. Maestro en Casa: Class options this school year Austin ISD offers a basic English course for families of our students. Participants take classes at their students' schools to learn not just the English language, but also how to handle common situations as well as the vocabulary to master the topics of Maestro en Casa's six sections: Housing, Health, Finance, Work, Education and Citizenship.
