Future of school funding looking bleak following failure of school voucher bill (En español)
The most recent efforts at the Texas Capitol to create a school voucher program were defeated after lawmakers voted 84-63 to remove the creation of education savings accounts from the session’s education funding bill, HB 1. A coalition of all Democrats and 21 Republicans stood firm against the proposal that would use taxpayer dollars to pay for private schooling.

The Austin Independent School District Parent Support Office and Positive Behavior Support program will present a free workshop for parents, "Raising Boys to Men," from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, at the Sheraton Austin Hotel, located at 701 E. 11th Street.
