The Women’s Studies Program at Garza high school is proud to announce the inauguration of their Women’s Studies Speaker Series, “Speaking Truth to Power”. The multi-credit class empowers young women with the study of the contributions American women have made to the history and culture of this country so that they too will take a leadership role in their own lives and communities.
Akins' 'The Eagle's Eye' Earns Best in Show in Newspapers from Texas Association of Journalism Educators
The Eagle’s Eye, the Akins High School student newspaper, recently received the distinction of being named Best in Show in Newspapers at the annual Texas Association of Journalism Educators Fall Fiesta held in San Antonio.
AISD Invites Community to Help Name North Central Elementary School No. 2
AUSTIN, Texas—Austin ISD’s Board of Trustees invites community members to submit nominations for the name of a new elementary school campus in north Austin. The school, located at 2011 W. Rundberg Lane, is under construction and scheduled to open in August.The nomination process will close on March 16 at midnight. The school board is scheduled to take action in April.

Cultural Uni-tea: AISD Hosts 26 Uruguayan Teachers
Last week was one week of firsts for the 26 teachers visiting Austin ISD from Uruguay.Two who were visiting Pillow Elementary School said that, for the first time, they had flown in a plane, eaten tacos and drunk Dr Pepper.Each teacher in the two-week program stays with a host—an AISD teacher who volunteers to show them what Austin living is like, both at home and at work.
