Today on National Food Day, Austin ISD Nutrition Services was recognized by the Center for Good Food Purchasing as a Good Food Institution Hero. AISD was named a Hero for its innovative steps taken to achieve the four-out-of-five-star ranking in the Good Food Purchasing Program. Media Advisory: Elementary Students Practice Reading with Marines to Celebrate Read Across America
AUSTIN, TX--This Friday, students at Andrews Elementary School will practice their reading skills with members of the U.S. military. Marines stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina will read with kindergarten students over Skype as part of the school's Read Across America celebration. Others participating include a small-business owner and a music educator, both from south Texas.
Back to School Bash
On Aug. 12, Austin ISD, in collaboration with the city of Austin, will host its annual Back to School Bash and Safety Fair from 9 a.m.–noon at the Palmer Events Center. Almost 150 community organizations and district departments will provide information and activities to prepare AISD students for a safe and successful school year.

AISD Hosts Screening of "Bully"
Austin, TX—The Austin Independent School District will host a screening of the movie, "Bully" Wednesday, April 25, at Alamo Drafthouse. The screening will feature a discussion immediately following the film led by Superintendent Meria Carstarphen.
