AISD Invites Community Input on Any Given Child Creative Learning Initiative

Austin, TX—The Austin Independent School District will host a community meeting to gather input regarding the Any Given Child 10-year strategic plan at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the McCallum High School Performing Arts Center.

The proposed plan was developed through the collaborative efforts of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, AISD, the City of Austin and local higher education and arts communities as part of the district’s preliminary, potential 2013-14 annual academic and facilities recommendations.

Who: Any Given Child, AISD’s fine arts department, City of Austin, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts

What:  Community meeting regarding 10-year plan for the Any Given Child initiative

When: 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20

Where: McCallum High School Performing Arts Center, 5600 Sunshine Dr.

Background: The Any Given Child Creative Learning Initiative could provide a 10-year, district-wide arts equity plan to improve student achievement and strengthen community bonds through arts-rich schools for every AISD student.

The district’s fine arts department will present findings from the 2011-12 Kennedy Center’s district-wide audit, which was conducted to identify gaps and opportunities throughout the district’s fine arts programs.

The goal of the Any Given Child initiative is for all AISD students to attend arts-rich schools and that every child, in every grade, gains the benefits of learning in a creative classroom.

The Any Given Child model seeks to bring access, balance and equity to each child’s arts education, using an affordable model that combines the resources of the school district, the City of Austin, local arts groups, businesses and philanthropic organizations.

The meeting will inform the public about the proposed recommendation, as well as provide an opportunity for community members to share meaningful input.

Childcare and interpretation services will be provided for attendees.
