Austin ISD explores 3-year plan to reduce $92M budget deficit (En español)

Budget cuts can be scary! No need to panic. The district has a plan to save without making major impacts to operations and learning. 

First, the cuts won’t happen all at once. Phew! There’s a plan in place to reduce the budget deficit over the next three years. 

How is the district going to cut the budget by $92 million over the next three years you ask? 

Well, it’s looking at several options including vacancies, finding operational efficiencies, and ensuring we are getting all the dollars we deserve for the services we provide to students.

Board of Trustees complete after Austin voters select Fernando Lucas de Urioste as At-Large Trustee (En español)

Incoming trustee Fernando Lucas De Urioste will complete the nine-member board filling the At-Large District 8 seat, according to unofficial voting results.

  • Once the official votes are certified he’ll be sworn-in in January.

Coats for Kids will keep thousands of Austin ISD students warm this winter (En español)

Thousands of Austin ISD students are staying warm this winter thanks to the "Coats for Kids" program. 

Why it matters: For more than a decade, The Junior League of Austin and its partners have generously provided thousands of coats to local students in need. This program provides relief to families during this time by giving free coats so children can stay warm this winter. 

FAQs on Prop A compensation plan (En español)

Austin ISD staff who received communication from Talent Strategy that their pay rate will be adjusted due to Austin voters’ support of Prop A will begin to see their new rate on the Friday, December 13 paycheck.

What is included in the compensation plan?

The compensation plan includes $17.3 million for market adjustments to teacher and staff pay. The plan also guaranteed eligible classified staff would receive a minimum increase of at least $0.25/hour.
