District releases draft budget reduction plan that safeguards, librarians, counselors, nurses, planning periods (En español)

Austin ISD Superintendent Matias Segura presented a three-year proposal to the Board of Trustees Nov. 22, outlining options to balance the budget. Now it’s the community’s turn to weigh in.

Why it matters: District leaders must find $92 million to eliminate the budget deficit while keeping cuts farthest from the classroom and preserving the student experience.

Of Note: Options previously discussed such as librarians, counselors, nurses and planning periods are off the table — at least for the upcoming school year.

MoPac South Expansion Town Hall

Join Austin ISD staff and families to learn and discuss the planned expansion of MoPac South. Representatives from Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA) will be available to answer questions about how the expansion might impact traffic and commutes for student pick-up and drop-off in the years ahead.

Those interested in attending are encouraged to complete this form. This will ensure the space is large enough to accommodate all attendees.

Thanks to an increased grant from the City of Austin, the Parent Support Team is expanding districtwide with the introduction of a new Regional Support Team.

Why it matters: Parent Support staff engage directly with families, campus staff and community members to ensure effective school-community partnerships and allocation of community resources.

The new team consists of two facilitators and two regional associates, who will connect with families in non-Title I schools and promote educational opportunities throughout the district.

Rosedale School identified as surplus after district evaluation (En español)

The district now has the opportunity to monetize the former Rosedale School site after the property was declared surplus, opening the option to sell or lease the land.

The details: The school, located at 2117 West 49th Street, is not used by the district and the tract of land does not meet the established criteria to accommodate any future needs by Austin ISD.
