On Tuesday, Crockett Early College High School Principal Kori Crawford, was named one of five “Champions for School Climate,” by the Aspen Institute Education & Society Program. The recognition highlights school leaders who create positive and healthy school cultures, also known as school climate.
When you visit Crockett Early College High School, you walk into an atmosphere that is committed to equity, supportive relationships, quality teaching and learning, and a sense of belonging. These qualities were stewarded by Principal Kori Crawford which led her to earn the Champions for School Climate award by the Aspen Institute Education & Society Program.
Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde had a message for principals at Austin ISD Tuesday: this year’s primary focus is on academics.
“The main thing has to stay the main thing,” she said. “Our kids must be academically prepared.”
Elizalde spoke to principals at their monthly meeting at the Performing Arts Center. She told principals to stay focused on academics after more than a year of the conversation around schools being dominated by COVID-19, which can easily distract administrators and campus staff.
