MEDIA AVAILABILITY: Austin ISD Refugee Family Support Office Welcomes Afghan Refugees

Austin ISD is welcoming newly-arrived Afghan students and their families to the district in light of families fleeing Afghanistan.

For years, the district’s Refugee Family Support Services Office has served as a language and resource hub for hundreds of refugees and asylees enrolled in the district.

The district’s Refugee Family Support Coordinator Salimah Shamsuddin will be available for interviews to share more about the district’s welcoming efforts and how they are supporting families.

Community Bond Oversight Committee Meeting

Location: Held in-person at AISD's Central Office—4000 S I-35 Frontage Road, Austin, TX 78704—in Room 221

The Board of Trustees appointed volunteer citizens to the Community Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC) to ensure that the projects remain faithful to the voter-approved bond program scope of work and to monitor and ensure the bond projects are completed on time, with quality and within budget.

Austin ISD Announces Staff COVID-19 Vaccine Incentive Programs

Staff could get $250 if fully vaccinated by Oct. 15. Austin ISD staff will now have extra reason to get vaccinated against COVID-19. 

The district announced two programs aimed to support its staff by providing a financial incentive and the opportunity to get help with sick days if COVID-19 isolation is needed. By incentivizing staff to get vaccinated, in addition to requiring masks, the goal is to have a multi-layered approach to making campuses as safe as possible.

The programs outlined below are focused on getting staff fully vaccinated by Oct. 15:

Please join us as the six work groups provide us with progress on their goals and to learn more about the community and district's approach to eliminating racial disparities in discipline and punishment for our AISD students.
