An Important Message From Superintendent Elizalde / Un mensaje importante del Superintendente Elizalde

Dear Austin ISD Family,

Thank you for coming together to ensure a successful week of 100% remote learning and mass testing in our school district. This morning when I met with my team, we kicked off the meeting by asking the question designed to focus our work, “And how are the children?”

Leave

A leave of absence may be available for a serious health condition of your own or an eligible family member. For purposes of FMLA, a serious health condition is defined as "an illness, injury, impairment, or physical or mental condition that involves: inpatient care in a hospital, hospice, or residential medical care facility; or continuing treatment by a health care provider.”

Additionally, leave is available for caring for a child under the age of 6.

AISD’s Own Ian McKenna Becomes Finalist for Time Magazine’s Kid of The Year

When Liberal Arts and Science Academy student Ian McKenna began gardening in the third grade, he couldn’t have realized it would one day land him in the pages of Time Magazine, but that’s exactly what happened.

McKenna's story started with a simple garden plot, where he’d give the produce grown there to friends and neighbors. After a few years, McKenna asked his school to set up a garden space so that they could provide vegetables to the community. Other students began to participate, donating their time and money.
