National Food Day: AISD recognized as Good Food Institution Hero for commitment to healthy, fair, sustainable food

Today on National Food Day, Austin ISD Nutrition Services was recognized by the Center for Good Food Purchasing as a Good Food Institution Hero.

AISD was named a Hero for its innovative steps taken to achieve the four-out-of-five-star ranking in the Good Food Purchasing Program. The district is one of the first institutions outside of Los Angeles to enroll in the Good Food Purchasing Program. AISD joins the University of Texas at Austin and Austin Convention Center in participating in the program. 

LASA Showcase

Join us for the annual LASA Showcase on Nov. 20 from 6–8 p.m. at LASA High School, 7309 Lazy Creek Dr. This is an additional opportunity for interested students and families to walk LASA’s halls, meet teachers and students, and explore this unique high school.

Premier League Primary Stars USA to visit AISD Elementary Schools for Soccer-Themed Learning

Austin ISD elementary school students will work side-by-side with professional athletes during a soccer-themed educational experience with the Premier League.

Premier League, the top level of the English soccer league system consisting of 20 clubs, and EVERFI, a leader in driving social change through technology and education, are joining forces to bring an interactive soccer-themed education program to students at Perez Elementary School. 

Kealing Magnet Showcase

See the awesome projects our students are working on and visit with teachers who have created innovative electives. Ask questions and learn how to apply!

Dia De los Muertos

Join us as we celebrate Dia De los Muertos.

The event will take place at the Hill Side Stage at the Pan Am Rec Center, 2100 East 3rd St.

A screening of the movie Coco, craft making opportunities and food will be provided.

Perez Elementary School Teacher Selected as Bilingual Teacher of the Year

Texas Association for Bilingual Education Honors Teacher for Dedication, Leadership

Perez Elementary School teacher María Jesus Sebastián was recognized by the Texas Association for Bilingual Education as the group's 2019 Bilingual Teacher of the Year.  

Sebastian was honored for her work and dedication to the needs of English language learners, and for her outstanding leadership.

Schools Renamed

2022 Naming

The Austin ISD Board of Trustees approved the naming of the Bowie Performing Arts Center the Diane "Betsy" Cornwell Performing Arts Center at its Jan. 27 Regular Voting meeting.

That same night, the board voted in favor of naming the Anderson High School baseball field the "Willie Wells Field.”

At their March 24 Regular Voting meeting, the board approved naming the library at Gullett Elementary the “Kay Gooch Library.”
