Buford the Book Bus Offers Free Books During Summer Program

This summer, Austin ISD Library Media Services hosts its annual Buford the Book Bus tour, providing free books to children of all ages in English and Spanish.

Many students lose access to books during the summer, and the district is providing these opportunities for families to keep their children reading over the summer to stop the summer slide.

"Summer slide" is the phrase used to describe the slide that many children make in reading and math skills over the summer.

Austin ISD Continues to Support and Participate in Annual Pride Events

Austin ISD is committed to creating a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for students, staff and families.

June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month. The month has been recognized since 1970, one year after the Stonewall Uprising, which took place on June 28, 1969, commemorating the impact the riots had had on society.

School Changes: Districtwide Community Visioning Sessions

Please join Austin ISD for a series of community visioning sessions, designed to gather feedback on the strengths and challenges of each region.

Feedback from these meetings will be used to support the work of the School Changes Think Tanks and will ultimately inform the development of regional scenario options.

Meetings will be conducted in a come-and-go format and attendees can participate at their own pace.

Districtwide meetings are open to the community in all regions and are an opportunity for those who cannot attend their own regional meeting.
