Dear Austin ISD families,

We hope that you and your family had a restful and relaxing Spring Break, but we understand that tension may be high as our children return to school in the midst of the situation in Austin involving explosives.

We want you to know we are coordinating with the Austin Police Department—along with state and federal partners—to take any and all necessary security precautions.

This is what our campus faculty and staff are doing:

Tour de Schools: Austin ISD Gives Realtors Insight into Local Schools

Austin ISD is holding a tour of four Austin ISD schools for the Austin Board of Realtors. This is a chance for local Realtors to be an expert resource for their clients who are looking for homes in north central Austin.

When: 8:10 a.m.–1:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 21

Travis Country AISD Families- Transportation Impacted by Police Activity, March 19/Transporte a escuelas del AISD afectada por actividad policiaca el 19 de marzo

Austin ISD families in the Travis Country neighborhood, we are aware of police activity in your area. We are working with the Austin Police Department to take appropriate measures. Due to police activity, we will not be able to send school buses into the neighborhood on Monday, March 19.  Any tardies or absences due to this situation will be excused.

Austin ISD Offices, Schools Closed March 12–16 for Spring Break

Austin ISD will be closed for Spring Break, March 12–16.

All AISD offices and schools will be closed during this period.

The district will resume regular business hours Monday, March 19.

Kiker Teacher One of Six Central Texas Teachers Named Finalists for 2018 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards

 

Kiker Elementary School teacher Jewellyn Forrest has been named a finalist for the 2018 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards.

H-E-B’s Excellence in Education is the largest monetary awards program for educators in Texas, and among the largest in the nation. The educators learned they were finalists this week, when H-E-B representatives visited their classrooms and schools with balloons, cookies and flowers.

Auditions for Districtwide Summer Musical Open March 12

Calling all actors, singers, musicians, dancers, and tech students!

Auditions for the 2018 Austin ISD Districtwide Summer Musical, Disney’s Newsies, open March 12.

AISD students who are currently in grades 5–12 are encouraged to submit an audition video through Google Classroom. No initial in-person auditions will be held.

Speak Out Scotties Outdoor Concert for Peace

Join us for Speak Out Scotties, an outdoor concert for peace with performances by Lamar Middle School students.
 
Working together, students and faculty organized this event as an example of how to peacefully advocate for significant change in our modern world.
 
Student letters to congressman are on display as part of the event, as well as posters featuring important acts throughout history that have been a catalyst for change. 
 
The event is 2:30–3:30 p.m.
